For Aiyanna by Timothy Veit Jones

For Aiyanna
by Timothy Veit Jones

Perhaps she dreamt of princes
castles, forests, fairies,
her future queendom,

perhaps she clutched a teddy bear
with fragrant fur

perhaps she had visions of lavender fields
mile high ferris wheels

perhaps in this dream
a prince arrived at that couch

perhaps this princess
expected to be awakened by her royal father

perhaps in some other world
a king kissed her forehead

instead of a bullet
