Chalk Outlines

Klaymoon_N_Chalk Outlines_2014 from Embodiment Project on Vimeo.

Chalk Outlines, interweaves dance, poetry, live song, and documentary theater in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement. The piece is dedicated in loving memory to Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner and the countless other African American men who have unjustly lost their lives due to police brutality. This work responds to the reality of these times and the racial profiling that men of color have faced for centuries in America. This production includes all original music by Valerie Troutt and is performed live by her vocal ensemble MoonCandy.

Premiered at at the Headland Center for the Arts in Marin County (8 dancers and 4 vocalists and can downsize cast for touring purposes).
